We travel all day. The journey is difficult, and my body aches, but it’s good to be moving again. Travelling with an army of this size is slow, but we’re making progress. We should reach Saren in a couple of days. I spend most of my time thinking about what it will be like. I’ve only ever lived in my tower and my kingdom, so although I’m nervous about what the future holds for me, I am excited about seeing somewhere new.

I’m quiet for most of the journey, thinking about what happened in the tent this morning with Kai and his advisors. He did try to initiate conversation several times, but I’m just not in the mood. I sold out my home. Sure, I gave away as little information as possible, but no one is even supposed to know that it exists, and I just handed over that information. The relationship I have with my old home is completely messed up in my mind. My dreams used to be filled with hope that I’d eventually be welcomed back with open arms, but now, it’s someone else taking me into their arms. If I were given the opportunity, would I go back? I’m not sure any longer.

The sun is low in the sky, and it won’t be long until we stop for the day, but Betsy still plods onward without complaint. When Luce took me to the makeshift stables this morning, I burst into tears upon seeing my horse. Climbing into her stall, I wrapped my arms around her neck and cried, stroking her soft coat and whispering sweet praises. Betsy looked on adoringly, drooling on my shoulder and whickering softly.

Eventually, after what feels like an eternity, someone shouts something from up ahead, and we begin to slow. Once we’re all stopped, everyone spreads out and attends to their pre-assigned tasks. I smile distractedly at Kai as I dismount Betsy and go to help with the horses. I find the repetitive work calming and enjoy being around the animals.

The camp is set up surprisingly quickly, not that I would have known. I’m so distracted with the horses that the sun has well and truly set when Blade appears at my side.

“You’re needed.”

Jumping at his sudden appearance, I press a hand against my chest. However, his words slowly register with me. The way he says it instantly puts me on alert, and I drop the grooming brush to turn and face him fully, my heart in my stomach.

“Is everything okay? Is someone hurt?”

“King’s orders.”

Picking up the brush, I hurry over to the stable master and hand it over. When I turn, I find that Blade is already stalking away, and I have to jog to catch up with him.
